The statewide "Drive Hammered — Get Nailed" campaign is aiming at Labor Day weekend traffic, with extra DUI patrols planned in Snohomish County starting today and continuing through Sept. 3.

August is one of the deadliest months for traffic fatalities and Labor Day weekend is one of the state's deadliest holidays, averaging more than eight deaths each year, according to the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

State Patrol troopers, as well as officers from the Arlington, Edmonds, Everett, Lake Stevens, Lynnwood, Marysville, Mill Creek and Mountlake Terrace police, will participate in the campaign.
